Weekly Diary Entries From My 30-Day Social Media Cleanse

“I almost feel like I don’t exist.”

I’m completely addicted to social media.

To make matters worse, my mental health has been like a crappy episode of Wheel of Fortune for the last few months, and I’m convinced that social media has a lot to do with it. I’m a freelance copywriter and social content creator, so I spend quite a bit of time posting on social media and studying analytics for clients on a weekly basis.

It’s driving me mad.

The nonstop pursuit of attention and validation is killing my brain cells. I need a break.

I’ve got too many projects on the horizon, and I can’t keep up with my own personal deadlines if I’m wasting my time liking, scrolling, and commenting on other people’s photos of themselves on boats or beaches or doing whatever the heck else it is that they’re trying to show off. It makes me anxious.

Starting today, August 1st, I’m doing a 30-day “zero social media” challenge. The only social media I’m allowing is Medium because I like Medium and it has positive return-on-investment for me.

Each week, I’m going to write down one short diary entry on how my mood and thoughts are affected by not using social media. I’ll post this on September 1st, right…
