The Story of How I Got My Shit Together

It only took a decade.

When I was 17, I was severely depressed, chronically anxious, and lost as to what I was going to do with my life.

Then, a few weeks before I graduated high school, I started learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

What happened next is a long journey and an even longer story that spans 8 years, from the time I was an anxious schooler to today, where I’m 25, doing what I love full-time, having great mental health, and “living the dream”.

Living my dream.

It’s partially because of Jiu-Jitsu, partially because of writing, and partially because of my disciplined effort over years and years.

Here’s what happened:

This story has been told before, and it will be told again.

You’ve probably read or heard a story like this one before — about someone who was a mess and how martial arts (or some other craft) “saved their life”.

But I wasn’t a mess.

I was a decent high school wrestler, I was going to college, and I was dating my high school sweetheart.

I was doing okay, but I was just lost, sad, and more anxious than I could possibly understand.
