Stop Pouring Your Soul Into Everything You Do
Some parts of life are just not worth fighting for.
Passion is overrated.
Effort, on the other hand, is not overrated. Effort is undervalued. People throw effort around like it’s crumbs on the floor or pennies on the street.
In reality, your gas tank is very limited.
What we fail to understand is that humans have a very limited capacity for effort. Our biology literally wires us to be lazy, but we’re constantly told to hustle, work hard, and push our limits by our culture’s marketing machine. The result isn’t a healthy relationship with hard work, it’s a tendency to go “all-in” in every aspect of our lives.
We’re told from the time we’re able to understand what words mean that we have to “follow our passions” in order to be fulfilled, but we’re never told to be careful about what we put our effort into.
The result is too much passion, quick burnout, and eventually, a disdain for the very things that set us on fire.
Emotions Are Drugs
Inherently, passion isn’t a bad thing. It’s crucial to live a life that has passion, excitement, and opportunities to look forward to things. It’s good to be excited about the future.
