How You Do Anything is NOT How You Do Everything
The value of fucking up.
Welcome to the end of 2020.
The world is fucked, right?
Wrong.
Nothing is fucked and nothing is not fucked. It just is, whether we like it or not. It doesn’t even matter in the grand scheme of the universe.
So ultimately, the question becomes:
How do you defeat nihilism in a meaningless world?
I see all the time the idea that the way to have a meaningful life is to do things that matter. If you want your life to matter, make your life matter. Make everything matter. Pull yourself up… by your bootstraps (*eye roll*).
The problem with this idea is that it makes us believe that everything has to matter. Any flaw in our lives is entirely due to our deep hidden internal faults. Any success is entirely due to our hard-earned virtue. The solution to irresponsibility and chaos is extreme responsibility and extreme order.
Many of us exist in this extreme world, even if we aren’t aware of it. The solution to a meaningless existence is extreme meaning. How you do anything is how you do everything.
You either work hard or you’re a loser. You’re successful or you’re not. Black or white. Order or chaos. Yin or yang.
