How I Became a Ghostwriter

It was a complete accident and it changed my life.

It was a cold day in January of 2022.

I was a burned-out freelance writer, generating around 5000 words per day for clients, my Medium articles, and my newsletter. I was also training Jiu-Jitsu twice per day, competing all over the country, teaching kid’s classes, and working myself to the ground day after day.

That was a tough period. Life was hard.

I didn’t sleep much, my body was physically run down from overtraining and overworking, and I was even starting to develop carpal tunnel in my wrists from hammering away at my narrow keyboard so much.

One day, I got a message from someone on Instagram asking me if I wanted to write articles for them. I assumed that for them meant “for their website”, I didn’t realize that it meant writing articles “for them” — as in as them.

This would be my first step into the strange world of internet ghostwriting.

Here’s how I got there (and what I did next).

First, I wrote online for about a year and a half.

I started writing online in November of 2020.
