Hi Martin, I definitely see your point. The replies in this article have taught me a lot about Buddhism that I didn’t already know, and I like your point about “angry discipline”. That word describes much of my early days as a combat athlete.

However, I did also feel as if you were taking a “jab” at my identity as a fighter a bit, which I don’t appreciate. This article wasn’t meant to “destroy” Buddhism. It’s not titled “This Is Why I Want To Destroy Buddhism”, it’s about the aspects of the philosophy that I have studied and learned about from those close to me that “bother me”. I never claimed expertise, the internet just decided to make this piece widespread.

If I’ve learned anything from a lifetime of fighting it’s that both fighters want the same thing. Meditation can very revealing, but who you are during the intensity of combat (physical or intellectual) can be revealing as well. Because of that, I can’t help respect you more for providing me new insight.

As for the anger, I’m sorry that upset you. Must have been all that unwholesome music I listen to.

Much love — Chris
