In November of 2021, I competed in and lost in the second round of the ADCC Trials (a qualifier for the most important submission grappling tournament in the world) in a division that had more than 150 athletes.

At the time, this was the largest submission grappling tournament I had ever competed in, and I had a piss-poor performance.

In April of 2022 (5 months later), I competed in the second iteration of the Trials which was far more competitive, and I took 4th place in a division that had more than 250 athletes.

I came in unseeded, and I upset 3 of the top 16 seeds in the tournament.

Most people saw my results and wondered, “Who is this guy and where did he come from?”

I wasn’t surprised though, this was something I’d obsessed over for the 5 months in between competitions.

I completely changed as an athlete in 5 months.

These are the 10 most important habits that allowed me to go from losing in the second round to placing 4th at the biggest grappling tournament in North America in just 6 months.
